PROGRAM:

🕜Day one:

9am - 12pm: Brothers and Sisters of People with Special Needs: Unique

concerns, unique opportunities

During this lively and interactive workshop, we will discuss the problems of siblings throughout life - the good, the not so good, and everything in between. We will also discuss what parents and service providers can do to minimize siblings' concerns and maximize their opportunities.

1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.: Panel of Adult Siblings

One of the best ways to learn about sibling issues is to listen to the "real experts." During this workshop a panel of local adult brothers and sisters will be moderated who will talk about life with brothers who have special needs. Panelists will offer suggestions to parents and providers.

2:45 pm - 3:30 pm: Sibshops: First steps. Workshops are kid-friendly workshops, just as rewarding to run as they are to attend. During this workshop, participants will learn the logistics of planning and implementing a

Local sibshop for school-age brothers and sisters. We will also discuss the goals of Sibshop and the recreational, discussion and educational activities that these goals suggest. Finally, we are going to practice 1 activity.

🕜Day two:

9am - 10am: preparation for the Sibshop demo. We will meet to put together the demo and continue our discussion of the Sibshop model.

10am - 2pm: Sibshop Demonstration

Participating in this workshop is the best way to learn about what Sibshops are. During the demo Sibshop, participants will join the trainer as she runs a Sibshop for young local brothers and sisters. This workshop provides participants with the materials and knowledge they will need to start, plan and conduct the activities for their own first Sibshop.

2pm - 3pm: Report and planning for local Sibshop programs

After the Sibshop workshop, students will discuss and finalize plans to create Sibshops in their own communities.
