IF I REQUEST AN APPOINTMENT WILL MY CHILD BE EVALUATED?
No, evaluation is an option but it does not apply to all cases, each case is different and the child's needs will be discussed with the parents at the first appointment.
ARE ALL THE NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL, PSYCHOPEDAGOGICAL, DEVELOPMENTAL EVALUATIONS THE SAME?
No, each evaluation is different, the number of appointments depends on the case, age, needs, etc.
WHO IS TRAINED TO EVALUATE NEURODEVELOPMENTAL DISORDERS?
Only Developmental Pediatricians, Neurologists, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Neuropsychologists with training and accreditation in the use of Specific Psychological Instruments created for the Diagnosis of the different Neurodevelopmental Disorders.
WHAT SHOULD AN EVALUATION BE LIKE TO DETECT ANY DIFFICULTY IN MY CHILD?
Professionals must have accreditation for the use of certain psychological tests and, in the case of the most general, expertise, which means that we have experience in the use of them.
In the case of evaluations to determine Autism Spectrum Disorders, for example, there must be accreditation and also expertise in the so-called “ gold standard assessment measures ”.
HOW SHOULD A THERAPY PROCESS BE LIKE FOR MY CHILD IN THE AREA OF NEURODEVELOPMENT?
Currently the Research has allowed us to know and develop efficient intervention techniques directed to the cases according to their particularities. According to the great Research groups in the area of Psychology in the world (American Psychology Association, Latin American Neuropsychology Association, etc.) they recommend the so-called Evidence-Based Intervention techniques. These are those created based on scientific research. This does not mean that the classical therapy processes cannot be positive but they are not the only option and in cases such as Autism Spectrum Disorders much less.
